The School for International Studies covers a diversity of perspectives on international issues, and imparts skills for students to build careers in the international arena. With globalization, all of us increasingly depend on international economic, political, and cultural ties with the rest of the world. Understanding these developments is vital, both for individuals, for states and for world politics as a whole. The School for International Studies is for students who are interested in international issues, including questions relating to peace and security; international economics, development and environment; governance and civil society; human rights and international law; and culture, language and ethnicity. Students will study the language, history and culture of a region such as Europe, Asia, Latin America or Africa, and areas of study will include politics, economics, history, geography, sociology and anthropology. Students of the School for International Studies are required to have an acquaintance with a second language, and they must be willing to spend a term outside of Canada in either an academic or work environment.
