Description

This degree equips you with the knowledge and skills to apply mathematics and statistics in the business world.

It combines the study of mathematics and statistics with the study of the major processes of business management, with specialist modules delivered by Newcastle University Business School.

You spend two thirds of your time studying mathematics and statistics, and have the flexibility to tailor the combination of pure mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics content to suit your interests.

You also spend one third of your time studying management, with topics including:

  • general management theory and practice
  • interpreting company accounts
  • human resource management
  • ethics and corporate governance

Course Content

Our degrees are divided into Stages. Each Stage lasts for an academic year and you need to complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each Stage.

- A Levels

AAB including grade A in Mathematics and excluding General Studies.

- Scottish Qualifications

AB at Advanced Higher Grade including grade A in Advanced Higher Mathematics.

- International Baccalaureate

A minimum of 35-37 points with Mathematics grade 6 or above at Higher Level.

- Irish Leaving Certificate

A1A1A1B1B at Higher Level, to include grade A in Mathematics.

- Access Qualifications

At least 30 level 3 credits at Distinction including Mathematical Studies. In addition, at least 15 level 3 credits at a minimum of Merit. A Newcastle University Mathematics and Statistics pre-entry course may also be required.

- BTEC Level 5 HND

Applicants will be considered on an individual basis.

- BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (formerly BTEC National Diploma)

If you have shown that you have the ability but do not possess the necessary qualifications for direct entry into Stage 1, you may consider taking a foundation year:

  • Mathematical Sciences with Foundation Year BSc Honours (G101)

This will provide you with the knowledge you need to progress to one of our three-year Mathematics and Statistics degrees.

- English Language Requirements

For this degree you will need a minimum score of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
