Do you have an interest in constructions and mechanical systems? Are you fascinated by large modern constructions and curious how mechanical devices are designed? During the Master's programme in Mechanical Design you learn to design structures and mechanical systems, and you get the chance to link the gap between complicated theory and practical applications.

Become a technical problem solver

Practically all things that we surround ourselves with in our everyday lives are developed in collaboration with a Mechanical Engineer. If you are interested in construction, calculations, innovation, and development, the Master's programme in Mechanical Design might be of your interest.

During the programme, you learn to design, draw, produce and test small and simple machines as well as large and more complicated ones. You become a technical problem solver, and you learn to turn visions into actions by combining theory and practice. The programme inspires you to optimise exisiting systems and processes, adapt new inventions to alternative applications, or to take a completely new direction in a development project.

The full two-year Master‘s programme gives you 120 ECTS.

1st semester

  • Analysis and Design of Load-Bearing Structures (15 ECTS)
  • Structural Mechanics and Dynamics (5 ECTS)
  • Material Modelling in Mechanical Design (5 ECTS)
  • Fluid and Wave Dynamics (5 ECTS)

2nd semester

  • Offshore Structures (15 ECTS)
  • Coastal, Offshore and Port Engineering (5 ECTS)
  • Advanced Structural Engineering (5 ECTS)
  • Risk and Reliability in Engineering (5 ECTS)

3rd semester

  • Analysis and solution of an advanced civil and/or structural engineering problem (15 ECTS)
  • Choose 3 of the 4 following courses: Renewable Energy Structures: wind turbines and wave energy devices (5 ECTS), Wind Loads on Structures (5 ECTS), Advanced Geotechnical Engineering (5 ECTS), Fracture Mechanics and Fatigue (5 ECTS)

Alternatively, you can choose a traineeship in an engineering company, a semester abroad, or to start your Master's thesis.

4th semester

  • Master’s thesis (30 ECTS)
