Course content examines fundamental issues in media and communications and assesses ongoing developments in the area of global communications, media audiences, media regulation and policy, and communications technologies.

The course is both theoretical and practice-based in its approach, and there is scope for students to customize their focus according to their interests. Individual student placements in the media and cultural industries are one of the courses many highlights. Students also benefit from the courses location in Central London, its proximity to the media industry networks and the huge range of events, lectures film screenings and other media related resources on offer.

Career opportunities
MA Media and Communications graduates go on to careers in the broad range of media industries, including but not limited to broadcast production, pre- and post-production; marketing; direct marketing; advertising; sales; public relations and promotions; and associated areas of public services and charities as well as private and independent media companies. The course will equip students with the skills associated with strategy, planning and theory in the media and communication industries. Students may already be carrying out internships in the communications industries whilst sitting the course.

The course structure consists of six core modules. Additionally, you are required to complete a dissertation of 15,000 words. The dissertation is designed to provide an opportunity for students to undertake a substantial academic project relevant to the title of their qualification.

Teaching methods

Lecture, seminar, workshop, tutorial.

Applicants will be expected to have a good Honours degree or equivalent. If you have lower qualifications but substantial relevant work experience you are also encouraged to apply. You will be asked to provide a written portfolio summarising your work history and showing how it relates to the aims of the course. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6.5 TOEFL iBT® test: 87 IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa.
