Media Studies

The Master's degree in Media Studies offers two complete Master's tracks, one internationally orientated English-taught track, and a Dutch-taught track. Both programmes train you to become a professional reporter and teach you to critically reflect on the nature of journalism. You will develop both practical skills and in-depth academic knowledge. The theoretical study of journalism makes this programme special. You will learn to reflect on the nature of journalism as a profession, the future of news reporting and your own position as a professional reporter. Eventually you will write a Master's thesis based on these theoretical reflections. The programme has a strong practical side as well. You will receive a hands-on multimedia training in a state-of-the-art newsroom. Through various assignments you will learn to turn current events into accessible news items. To further train your skills you will do an internship. Both tracks are selective. Please check the programme website for more details on content and admission procedures.

Admission requirements

For both tracks: an internationally recognized Bachelor's degree. For all students in the Dutch-taught track and Dutch students in the English-taught track: a 30 ECTS package of courses in the minor of Media and Journalism Studies (or equivalent courses at another university).

Other requirements

1. vooropleiding (ISPAC: vereiste vooropleiding) In principe kun je worden toegelaten met iedere WO-bachelor, mits je door de selectieprocedure komt. Voor de Nederlandstalige track en voor Nederlandse studenten in de Engelstalige track geldt dat zij tijdens hun bachelor een pakket van 30 ECTS uit de minor Media en Journalistieke Cultuur moeten hebben gevolgd (of vergelijkbare vakken aan een andere universiteit).
