Our program offers an entry-level Bachelor of Sciences pathway to become a Nuclear Medicine technologist. A Bachelor of Sciences in Radiologic Sciences (BSRS), concentration Medical Imaging is offered for those medical imaging technologists who are currently certified in Radiography, Radiation Therapy, Nuclear Medicine, Sonography or Magnetic Resonance Imaging and wish to complete a degree completion program. Also offered are pathways to certification in Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Nuclear Medicine technologists operate equipment that creates images of areas of a patient’s body. They prepare radioactive drugs and administer them to patients. The radioactive drugs cause abnormal areas of the body to appear different from normal areas in the images. http://www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/nuclear-medicine-technologists.htm#tab-2

Supported through the Department of Radiology. The University of New Mexico School of Medicine and working in conjunction with University of New Mexico Hospital provides students a  degree completion program that prepares graduates for a career of their choice in Nuclear Medicine, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT) and the BSRS .Each program involves academic course work, certificates include intensive clinical training at various medical facilities throughout the state. When not in the classroom, each student works under the supervision of clinical staff on a wide array of equipment and learns how to perform the various procedures associated with each type of examination.

Students completing CT, MRI or Nuclear Medicine program requirements are eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) examination. Nuclear Medicine students are also eligible to take the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) examination.

Students applying to the Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences (BSRS) program should be either enrolled in the programs listed above or have completed an entry level Medical Imaging Program such as x-ray, ultrasound, or radiation therapy. Students are required to transfer prior college credits to the University of New Mexico before admission to the BSRS program.
