Description

The programme is interdisciplinary and is designed to prepare graduates for international careers in enterprises and organizations where knowledge of several languages and business is required.

The programme offers three language modules: French, Spanish and German. All three modules comprise studying Business English, Financial English, English for Law, as well as general and business aspects of the module language. The programme provides cultural studies through such courses as Intercultural Communication, Intercultural Business Relations, business studies through the basic management courses such as Marketing, Management Theory, Accounting Theory, Entrepreneurship in the EU, as well as the EU and international market specific study courses.

Upon graduation, students are able to continue education in Master degree programmes and second level professional study programmes.

Career opportunities:

The programme prepares graduates for different careers in the public and private sector in the local and international labour market where integration of the knowledge of several languages and the knowledge of business is required. Programme graduates may work as manager’s assistants, assistants in administration, translators and in other positions or start their own business.

Requirements

  • General secondary education diploma is required;
  • English, German or French language knowledge, which must be proved with a grade recorded in the secondary education graduation transcript (the grade can be replaced with one of the international language tests);
  • Knowledge of mathematics must be proved with a grade recorded in the secondary education graduation transcript.
  • Enrolment criteria (for students competing for the state-financed study place)

  • The grade in English, German or French (45%)
  • Grade point average (20%);
  • Satisfactory grade in Mathematics (20%)
  • A certificate of the Latvian language (15%)

    Funding

    Latvian Scholarships for studies in Latvian Higher Education Institutions

    In accordance with bilateral agreements on co-operation in education and science, the State Education Development Agency (Valsts izglitibas attistibas agentura – VIAA) offers scholarships to students, researchers and teaching staff of several countries for studies in Latvian higher education institutions (HEIs).

    Applications will be accepted from students who have successfully completed at least one academic year of studies at their home HEI. (Students already studying in a Latvian HEI may apply for the Latvian scholarship as well.) If a student wants to continue her/his studies in Latvia for one extra year, she/he has to apply for the Latvian scholarship again. The Latvian scholarship can be awarded twice.

    Scholarships for studies are granted for a period of up to 10 months. They are applicable only towards full-time studies in Latvia. On-the-job studies, part-time studies and correspondence courses are not eligible for scholarship funding.
