MSc Molecular Biotechnology
The programme aims to provide students with training and learning opportunities in the skills and specialised knowledge needed to equip them for a career in biotechnology, molecular biotechnology or molecular biology, in particular in industry.
Practical skills will include sessions on fermentation, molecular biology, immunology, cell biology and protein chemistry, and you will go on to complete a major, supervised laboratory or computer-based research project.
Pre-Masters
One third of your pre-Masters year will be spent developing your English skills and academic skills; allowing you to approach academic reading and writing with confidence. You will also develop practical, analytical and numeracy skills in your Biosciences modules.
Aimed at highly motivated international learners with an excellent academic record, the pre-Masters year is designed to bridge the gap between your current qualification and the postgraduate programme at Birmingham. You will develop both subject specific knowledge and skills in the area of molecular biology and microbiology.
You will take Biosciences modules including: Skills for Biosciences, Molecular Biology and its Applications, Microbes and Man and an optional module. These modules will ensure that you have the knowledge base that you need to succeed on the MSc Molecular Biotechnology or MSc Microbiology and Infection. Studying alongside undergraduate students will fully prepare for the demands of a UK postgraduate course, as well as allowing you to adjust to UK assessment styles.
