Course Content

To meet the professional requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council the programme runs over a 45 week academic year for each of the 3 years.

Adult:

  • Year 1: Introduction to Adult Nursing, Adult Clinical Practice 1, Interprofessional Education modules including Foundations for Practice, Psychology, Sociology, Physiology.
  • Year 2: Caring for Adults with Long Term Conditions, Unscheduled Care, Adult Clinical Practice 2, Perspectives on Health and Wellbeing, Interprofessionals Evidence-based Practice.
  • Year 3: Management and Leadership, Nursing Adults with Complex Needs, Adult Clinical Practice 2, Interprofessional Investigation Professional Practice.

Child:

  • Year 1: Introduction to Children's & Young People's Nursing; Inter-professional Education Modules including Foundations for Practice. Psychology, Sociology & Physiology. All fields, Exploring Patient Centred care.
  • Year 2: Diversity in Health Care Provision for Children, Young People and their Families and Scheduled; Unscheduled Care for Children, Young People and their Families. All fields, Perspectives of Health and Wellbeing; Developing safe and Effective Practice. Inter-professional Education, Research in Health & Social Care Practice.
  • Year 3: Management of the Highly Dependent Child/Young Person and their Families; Transition to Registered Nurse (Child). All fields, Leading and Managing Effective patient Centred Care. Inter-Professional Educations, Investigating Effective Practice.

Mental Health:

  • Year 1: Introduction to Mental Health Nursing, Interprofessional Education modules including Foundations for Practice, Psychology, Sociology, Psychology, Sociology, Physiology, Exploring Patient Centred Care.
  • Year 2: Contemporary Approaches to Mental Health Care, Recovery and Values Based Practice, Research in Health and Social Care Practice, Perspectives on Health and Wellbeing, Developing Safe and Effective Practice.
  • Year 3: Leading and Managing Effective Patient Care, Investigating Effective Practice, Psychological Therapies in Mental Health, Complexities of Mental Health Care.

Learning Disability:

  • Year 1: Developing Evidence-Based Learning Nursing Practice, Learning Disability Clinical Practice 1, Interprofessional Education modules including Foundations for Practice, Psychology, Sociology, Physiology.
  • Year 2: Therapeutic Interventions for People with Leaning Disability and Complex Needs, Enhancing Effective Partnerships with Families and Professionals, Learning Disability Clinical Practice 2, Perspectives on Health and Wellbeing, Interprofessional Evidence-based Practice.
  • Year 3: Management and Leadership, Person-centred Community Practice in Learning Disability Nursing, Forensic Learning Disability Nursing, Learning Disability Clinical Practice 2, Interprofessional Investigating Professional Practice.

Requirements

All applicants must satisfactorily pass a health screen and a criminal record check. A current employer or academic reference must be supplied. There should be evidence of assessed study within the last 3 years.
