Occupational therapy is a profession involved in promoting health and wellbeing through occupation. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to allow individuals to take part in those activities of everyday life. Occupational therapists accomplish that outcome by allowing people to accomplish exactly the things which will boost their ability to participate or simply by changing their environment to better encourage participation. Occupational therapists have a broad education that equips them with skills and knowledge to work collaboratively with individuals or classes of people (and their communities) who have an impairment of body structure or function due to a medical condition, and who experience barriers to participation. Occupational therapists think that participation can be restricted or supported by physical, social, attitudinal and legislative environments.
