Description

In an increasingly interdependent but uneven world, analyses of the role of ideas (theory), of power (politics), and of material interest (economics) must be brought together for an in-depth understanding of global political processes.

The Major in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics has its origins in the long-established and highly successful PPE degree offered at the University of Oxford.

Its specificity at The American University of Paris lies in its integrated approach, with courses across the three disciplines mutually reinforcing each other.

Departmental Honors

Students with an average GPA of 3.4 among their required courses for PPE are eligible for the PPE Honors Program, which involves writing a PPE senior thesis (as a directed study; currently, there are not yet enough PPE majors to establish an honors senior seminar, like in International Economics; should there be sufficient demand for the Honors Program, the establishment of an honors senior seminar will be considered). Students who wish to pursue the Honors Program must consult with their advisor and the PPE program director at the beginning of their senior year.
