Podiatry

This program offers students diverse opportunities for hands-on education and enables them to deliver expert wellness services under professional oversight. Students may complete placements at external centers and have opportunities to participate in events that are focused on prevention and treatment within the wider area. QUT students participate in biomechanics/musculoskeletal clinics, sports clinics, diabetes complication clinics, paediatrics clinics and general podiatry clinics. Integral to the practice of podiatry is an understanding of human body, biomolecular science, pharmacology, dermatology, and clinical medicine and surgery. This knowledge is supported with approximately 1000 hours of clinical practice which exposes students to all aspects of professional practice including podiatric surgery, physical therapy, rehabilitation and counselling, and prepares graduates for transition to the work force.

This course is Licensed by the Australian and New Zealand Podiatry Accreditation Council. * Graduates are eligible to apply for enrollment together with the Podiatry Board of Australia, also membership of the Australian Podiatry Association and Sports Medicine Australia. With additional postgraduate training, podiatrists can employ to the Podiatry Board of both Australia and seek authorisation to prescribe scheduled medicines.

• Year 12 or equivalent
• Assumed knowledge: English, or Literature, or English and Literature, or English as Another Language (Units 4 & 3, C)
• Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics (Units 4 & 3, C) and Chemistry (Units 4 & 3, C).
