The aim of the qualification is to train psychologist professionals who master the theories and methods of the science of psychology at an advanced level, are proficient in the various fields of psychology, possess the skills and techniques of the psychologist profession, and are able to apply these to help individuals, groups or organisations develop and improve.

Further aims are to present recent theoretical and practical material, to establish professional skills and commitment for the profession within the field of psychology at a level that gives a solid foundation of knowledge that enables the student to practice psychology as a vocation independently at a master level, to participate in postgraduate courses and to attend further training in doctoral schools.

A master of psychology is characterised by expansive and integrated professional and theoretical knowledge, the creative adaptation of the methods of academic knowledge, psychological responsiveness and communicational efficacy through the utilisation of personal resources along with a high degree of professional commitment.

Career opportunities

The Psychology Master degree gives qualification as a psychologist in health activities, in educational and organisational settings, in developmental issues and in research.
The programme prepares students for the practical co-operation with other professionals on the mentioned fields and gives a fine basis to a successful participation in interdisciplinary research, doctorate courses or postgraduate courses. The programme is compatible with the Bologna system and EuroPsy requirements, as well as the regulations of some other non-EU countries, which means the degree is internationally recognised and gives an opportunity to work in the field all over the world.

Psychology or Psychology-related (e.g. Behaviour Science) Degree (BA or higher). Applicants are expected to present the documentation of their Bachelors degree in Psychology or Psychology-related sciences and to send the application form with the necessary attachments.

Hungarian Scholarship Board Office
The Hungarian Scholarship Board (HSB) Office (Balassi Institute, Hungary) offers scholarships to foreign students and lecturers in higher education institutions as well as research fellows who intend to gain further professional experience in Hungarian higher education institutions or research institutes.

Scholarships offered by the HSB allow studies or research in any fields of art or science at an accredited Hungarian higher education institution or research institute selected by the applicant in advance.

In their scholarship application material, students HAVE TO submit a Letter of Acceptance from a lecturer of the university, which declares that the lecturer is ready to host the scholarship holder with a tuition fee waiver.

There are seven types of scholarships are available:

A semester/partial studies (310 months)
B postgraduate studies, research (321 days or 110 months)
C/1 - full PhD programme (36 months)
C/2 partial PhD studies (10 months)
D postdoctoral studies, research (110 months)
E research stay (321 days or 110 months)
F summer courses in the summer of 2013 (24 weeks)*
* Only courses published in the list of Summer Courses 2013 on the HSB website can be selected.

Visegrad Scholarship Program (VSP)
The International Visegrad Fund offers Masters and Post-Masters schol­ar­ships awarded to selected schol­ars for peri­ods of 1 or 2 semes­ters (with the excep­tion of Masters schol­ar­ships within the In-Coming scheme where 1 to 4-semester schol­ar­ships can be awarded). Given the annual bud­get of 1,190,800, the Fund will award over 300 semes­ters in total in the aca­d­e­mic year 2014/2015 (more infor­ma­tion).

Applicants whose cur­rent (i.e., at the time of apply­ing) uni­ver­sity or employer is fur­ther than 1,500 km from the selected host university/institute are eli­gi­ble for a one-time travel grant (see the Instructions).

Citizens of the fol­low­ing coun­tries and ter­ri­to­ries can apply:

Albania (AL), Armenia (AM), Azerbaijan (AZ), Belarus (BY), Bosnia and Herzegovina (BA), Czech Republic (CZ), Georgia (GE), Hungary (HU), Kosovo (XK), Macedonia (MK), Moldova (MD), Montenegro (ME), Poland (PL), Russia (RU), Serbia (RS), Slovakia (SK), and Ukraine (UA).

The schol­ar­ship pro­gram is not applic­a­ble to, nor does it cover full stud­ies within joint pro­grams (i.e., dou­ble or multiple-degree). The schol­ar­ship does not cover studies/research at other insti­tu­tions or in other coun­tries than those spec­i­fied in the appli­ca­tion form. The schol­ars are expected to work on their study/research projects at the host university/institution for the entire schol­ar­ship period. All appli­cants must have fin­ished at least 4 semes­ters of uni­ver­sity at the time of applying.

If selected each scholar receives the schol­ar­ship fund­ing at the begin­ning of each five-month period (semes­ter) upon a writ­ten con­fir­ma­tion from the host university/institution (see Article 4 of the Contract).

Deadline for all schol­ar­ship appli­ca­tions (with the excep­tion of Visegrad Scholarships at OSA) is at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on January 31 each year. Results are announced by mid-May.

Opportunities for students from the USA
Study Abroad Organizations American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) provides study abroad programs at a handful of international destinations, including Hungary. Here students may study in courses taught in English and across an interdisciplinary spectrum.

The AIFS Study Abroad Scholarships may provide rather generous funds for those who demonstrate both academic motivation and financial need.

Eligible applicants are also expected to show involvement in international clubs or activities.
The Diversity Scholarships are doled out to those students who are most underrepresented in the study abroad arena. One full ride is awarded and three-$2,000 Minority Scholarships are given as well.

Private Funding
TheInternational Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) is an internationally recognized organization whose main mission is providing various levels and types of support for scholars and professionals working in the field of international and foreign policy. IREX encourages fresh networks of multicultural exchange and cutting edge communications that make a better world. Besides a handful of research grants and fellowships for study in post-Soviet Eurasian countries, IREX also provides Short-Term Travel Fellowships.

Many high level scholarly funds provide for long-term abroad programs, so thankfully this IREX fund makes $5,000 awards available for those whose on site requirement is only a couple of months.

The National Endowment for the Humanities Research Program is administered by American Councils for International Education and funded by the NEH. Eligible candidates for the program must be pursuing a research project in the humanities in Hungary or another Eastern or Central European country. Only those in post-graduate or post-doctoral situations are considered and applicants must have a working knowledge of the country's language. Up to $40,000 is awarded for a year of study.

Rotary International is known the world around for its charitable good deeds. No less well known are its generous scholarships. The Ambassadorial Scholarships are given out to over a hundred carefully selected applicants each year. Eligible candidates must represent the Rotary well. Preference is given to those pursuing humanitarian programs and sustainable development studies in Hungary or a few dozen other Rotary-eligible countries. Awards are $26,000 for an academic year.

College Scholarships
The University of Minnesota has forged a valuable exchange partnership with a number of Eastern European or Eurasian countries, including Hungary, through the Alexander Dubcek Fund. The program provides various levels of monetary assistance to both UMN students as well as those from partner countries. Students from UMN or Hungary may qualify for up to $2,000 in scholarship money for a term abroad or, for Hungarian students, at UMN.Michigan State University's "Democratization and Economic Transition in Eastern Europe" engages political science and international studies majors in a summer study abroad program that spans Hungary, Turkey and Romania all closely related in geographic location as well as in social and economic climates. While the program is open to students from outside institutions only MSU students may qualify for MSU scholarships:

Randall Smith/M. Richard Zinman Award for Study Abroad goes to outstanding majors in the James Madison College (sponsor of this program) who will benefit from one of the college's study abroad programs, such as the program in Hungary. Awards are $1,000.

MSU Credit Union Scholarships are the most widely awarded and generous. Up to $1,000 for a summer program is available for those who demonstrate balance of academic merit and financial need. Forest Akers Scholarships are given to those study abroad participants who may not be able to afford the program without the necessary funds. Awards are $500.

For students from Canada
British Columbia
Eötvös Loránd University meets the designation criteria determined by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Innovation and Technology, British Columbia. Students from British Columbia may be eligible for funding through StudentAid BC.

New Brunswick
