Each Department identifies competencies for each degree offered. These competencies reflect the full range of knowledge, skills, and other attributes that a student will acquire as a result of completing the requirements for a particular degree.

Upon graduation, a student completing the MPH curriculum in Health Education & Behavioral Science will be able to:

* Understand the importance and use of public health policy in health behavior change and health promotion;
* Use various techniques to conduct needs assessments of diverse populations;
* Utilize health behavior theories and models for understanding health behaviors;
* Design, implement, conduct, and evaluate health education/promotion programs in diverse settings;
* Develop and critique health education materials, methods and program;
* Apply management techniques in health education and health promotion settings; and
* Understand public health research as it pertains to the principles of behavioral science research.

* Principles and Methods of Epidemiology
* Introduction to Environmental Health
* Introduction to Biostatistics (Prerequisite: Quantitative Skills Assessment)
* Health Education and Behavioral Science in Public Health

MPH and MS applicants for admission to the New Brunswick, Newark or Stratford Campuses must have completed an undergraduate program accredited in the United States or its equivalent and must meet the criteria below. Preference will be given to candidates with two or more years of work experience in the health care fields and to residents of New Jersey.An applicants qualifications are substantiated by academic transcripts, GRE scores, and references. As part of the application, a personal statement also is required. An application is considered complete and will be reviewed when all admission information is received by specific deadlines. Accepted students will be required to provide information about their health as stipulated under University policy. Rutgers School of Public Health realizes that many students need financial aid to help them complete their education. Financial aid is any grant, scholarship, loan or paid employment offered for the express purpose of helping a student meet educationally-related expenses.

Such aid is usually provided by or through federal and state agencies, foundations, corporations and/or the University. Financial aid is awarded based on financial need, which is the difference between the cost of attending school and the students ability to contribute to his or her education, as determined on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Once a student has matriculated, financial aid funding is also contingent on the student making satisfactory academic progress.

Accreditation

The Rutgers School of Public Health is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), an independent agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit schools of public health. All accredited schools undergo periodic full evaluations, including preparing a self-study document and hosting a team of qualified peer reviewers to assess the validity of the self-study document during an on-site visit.
