The academic coursework and clinical practice incorporate contemporary research and theory in human communication science, cognitive neuroscience, speech science, rehabilitation science, behavioural science and clinical treatment. All through the program, students will participate in supervised clinical education in a variety of contexts. This class in speech pathology develops an integrated understanding of the science of human communication as well as the expert competencies for providing speech pathology services to individuals who have communication and swallowing disorders. Speech pathologists offer specialist services for those who have communication or swallowing issues. Communication or swallowing could be impaired by neurological damage, hearing impairment, physical malfunction, psychological disturbance and cognitive handicap. Some causes of disturbances in normal development may be unknown.
The program is accredited by Speech Pathology Australia. Candidates are eligible for membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
