    As the course progresses, and after you have completed the core modules, you will have the opportunity to choose a specialist pathology area, which will enable you to tailor your studies - either to enhance your knowledge and understanding of your current field, or perhaps to open up a path into a new areas such as management.
    By obtaining this Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) accredited Masters qualification you will enhance your career prospects and also gain a qualification suitable for individuals wishing to become chartered scientists.
    This course will enable you to develop your skills and obtain IBMS accredited qualifications within the workplace. It has a formal Employers Liaison Committee (ELC) with committee links to the IBMS and NHS employers. MSc Biomedical Science student representatives are entitled to membership of this committee. There are regular ELC meetings throughout the year, culminating in an AGM. An employers' forum is also active via the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
    Additional course information
    As the course is entirely Internet-based (Virtual Learning Environment), it is a prerequisite that you have access to the internet. You must have at least weekly access and should be able to enter chat-room sessions. Module tutors will provide critical feedback to you prior to final submission of your portfolios of evidence at the end of the taught modules.
    The aims of this course are:
    * to provide ongoing professional training for NHS and private pathology laboratory professionals
    * to enable you to develop and apply skills of analysis, synthesis, evaluation and application in the biomedical field
    * to enable you to develop a range of transferable skills relevant to a wider range of postgraduate employment opportunities
    * to enable you to develop a range of practical skills and experience in the biomedical field
    * to develop your awareness of the social, economic and ethical aspects in the biomedical field.

    Module guide
    In the first year of the MSc in Biomedical Science Distance Learning you will study the following core modules:

    * Cellular Pathology
    * Clinical Chemistry
    * Haematology
    * Medical Microbiology

    In the third year of study you complete a Dissertation/Final Project on a relevant subject of your choice, previous projects include:

    * An investigation of the oxidative basis and immunological aspects of diabetes and atherosclerosis
    * Glycation chemistry associated with diabetic pathology
    * Use of antibody interactions to develop novel tests for disease states

    On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

    Anglia Ruskin works on a modular system. Biomedical Science MSc Distance Learning students study a number of modules totalling 60 credits per year. The academic year consists of two semesters. The MSc also requires the completion of a 60 credit Dissertation/Final Project to achieve the total requirement of 180 credits.

    UK requirements for international applications

    Universities in the United Kingdom use a centralized system of undergraduate application: University and College Admissions Service (UCAS). It is used by both domestic and international students. Students have to register on the UCAS website before applying to the university. They will find all the necessary information about the application process on this website. Some graduate courses also require registration on this website, but in most cases students have to apply directly to the university. Some universities also accept undergraduate application through Common App (the information about it could be found on universities' websites).

    Both undergraduate and graduate students may receive three types of responses from the university. The first one, “unconditional offer” means that you already reached all requirements and may be admitted to the university. The second one, “conditional offer” makes your admission possible if you fulfill some criteria – for example, have good grades on final exams. The third one, “unsuccessful application” means that you, unfortunately, could not be admitted to the university of you choice.

    All universities require personal statement, which should include the reasons to study in the UK and the information about personal and professional goals of the student and a transcript, which includes grades received in high school or in the previous university.

    Program requirements

    * Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent, in Biomedical Science, FIBMS or Primary, HNC with bridging course, or HNC plus laboratory experience. Applicants must be employed in an appropriate laboratory as Biomedical scientists. Each applicant is considered on an individual basis. All applicants are advised to contact Jocelyn Pryce , prior to application. Two references must be supplied. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6.5 IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa. The IELTS test is most widely accepted by universities and is also accepted for Tier 4 visas to the UK- learn more.
