Even the viticulture and wine education programs have an worldwide reputation for excellence. This program incorporates courses in both viticulture and oenology and qualifies graduates to work as a viticulturist, oenologist (winemaker) or in related occupations (e.g. tourism and hospitality, and the food and beverage industry). Viticulture is the research of grape vines and their cultivation and includes site selection, vineyard establishment, management of diseases and pests and the informed application of irrigation and fertilizer to optimise vineyard yield and grape quality. The viticulturist typically works closely with all the winemaker to attain the desirable wine making outcome. The wine-maker utilises their practice at the science of wine making (oenology), to process grapes for its creation of white, red still and sparkling and fortified wines. Even the viticulturist/winemaker usually contributes to on site research, sales and promotion of their final product. Throughout the program, there is an emphasis on the key technical strategies and sensory (wine tasting) skills required for a career in viticulture and oenology. Even the Waite campus is currently co-located with numerous search partners, providing a stimulating and one of a kind atmosphere for training, exposing applicants to the latest technologies and enabling them to learn from leaders within their area.
