Slavic Studies is a field of studies that offer students the opportunity to study slavic languages, cultures and history of various countries, like Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine, Croatia, Slovenia and etc.
This program is divided into two levels of studies: undergraduate and postgraduate. This program is suitable for those who are interested in learning new languages or literature or those students who have an interest in Central and East European culture, history and politics. Undergraduate courses will prepare its students to understand the Slavic disciplines, precisely learning slavic languages (Russian, Serbian, Polish), literature, history, watching movies. However, graduates can develop their career paths in others areas of employment, like business, law, medicine, depending on their interest.
Courses are consisted of tutorials, lectures, seminars and methodologies of how to read texts and learning new cultures and its traditions. Bachelor's degree will also introduce students to popular issues in Slavic countries and their studies, that will develop a critical thinking skill. Moreover, students will be required to design a huge project about slavic issues and more importantly thesis defenses.
Postgraduate programs are focused on in-depth study of Slavic Studies and designed for those who already pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in this area of knowledge. Students are obliged to know one of Slavic languages, precisely Russian Language. Program participants are provided with a free choice of masters courses, especially those studies there were not included in their first degree program. At the end of masters, students will be required to make a research in the field of Slavic Studies. Professors will prepare students how to conduct deep researches, so you do not need to have an experience in researches.
Knowledge of slavic languages will be an advantage for students, as a huge quantity of courses can be conducted in slavic languages for effectiveness of classes. Moreover, many universities provide exchange semesters in slavic countries for a deep immersion in learning of slavic cultures.
Taught courses are designed to develop a potential, interest and skills of students in order to become specialists. Basic courses consist of Introduction to Slavic Languages, History, Philology, Russian and Central European Literature.
