The Nurlan Kapparov Fellowship was established in support of Harvard Kennedy School students in honor of the Kazakhstan statesman and businessman Nurlan Kapparov (MC/MPA 2003) and his legacy at the Harvard Kennedy School.
Initiated by Nurlan Kapparov’s wife Gauhar Kapparova and his friends Berik Kaniyev, Yuriy Pak and Erbolat Dossaev, the Fellowship will be awarded on a competitive, merit basis to admitted applicants from Kazakhstan who meet all relevant admissions criteria for Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) and enroll in one of HKS`s master`s degree programs.
All decisions regarding admissions and Fellowship awards will be made solely at the discretion of Harvard Kennedy School in accordance with its established policies and procedures.
Preference will be given to applicants with a minimum of two years of demonstrated work experience in the government of Kazakhstan or quasi-government or private-sector entities in Kazakhstan. Work experience should be related but not limited to economics, finance, trade, infrastructure or associated economic sectors. The candidate does not have to physically reside in Kazakhstan at the time of application for the Fellowship. Though preference shall be given to candidates that meet the previously stated criteria, if no such candidate is available, the Fellowship may be awarded to other admitted applicants from Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries such as Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan or held to be awarded in a future year.
