Aerospace, Aeronautical and Marine Engineering

Aerospace Engineering is a big field of engineering which is dedicated to creation and development of planes and other aircraft. Aerospace Engineering  consists of two main branches - aeronautical engineering and astronautical engineering. Aeronautical engineering deals with aircraft flying in the Earth's atmosphere, Astronautical Engineering works with construction and development of cosmic aircraft.

Avionics engineering is also one of the branches of Aerospace Engineering. It is dedicated to the electricity in a context of Aerospace Engineering.

Marine Engineering is a field of Engineering dedicated to creation and development of different kinds of ships and other marine equipment  - for example, barges, dry cargo ships and submarines.

All these fields are quite interdisciplinary and it is logical - you will have to be an expert in many areas, such as Physics, Mathematics, Dynamics, Liquid Mechanics, Electrical Engineering and many others in order to build a ship or a plane. That is why such fields as Aerospace, Aeronautical and Marine Engineering include a lot of subdisciplines which are taught separately.

Aerospace, Aeronautical and Marine Engineering program structure

As many other degrees in Engineering, the curriculum in Aerospace, Aeronautical and Marine Engineering is very specific. All these disciplines are usually taught as a separate degree, but more basic study programs combining Aerospace Engineering with Mechanical Engineering exist too. You can find the most accurate degree in this area for you with our help.

Besides specific courses in Aircraft, Ship and Aerospace Engineering, students in these area will undertake core courses in such disciplines as Mathematics, Physics, Materials Modelling, Aerodynamics, Project Management, Control Systems and many other. Students are encouraged to perform group projects. They will also choose compulsory courses, which will depend on the research and engineering interests.

Many study programs in Aerospace, Aeronautical and Marine Engineering include a year in industry or a year abroad, which help students to receive some needed work experience or develop their skills in a context of other country.

Students in Aerospace, Aeronautical and Marine Engineering usually complete their undergraduate degree in four or five years, and graduates receive a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering degree, which are rather similar. Usually a Bachelor degree in these areas is not enough to start a successful career, so students complete more advanced degrees - Master and PhD. In many universities Master and PhD degrees in Aerospace, Aeronautical and Marine Engineering are even more popular than Bachelor degrees - this is due to that students usually start with more basic education, for example, Mechanical Engineering.
