What is Engineering Physics?

Engineering Physics (or Engineering Science) is an interdisciplinary study which combines physics, mathematics and engineering. It is dedicated to theoretical and scientific part of engineering; creating new paths and solutions of Engineering.

Engineering Physics can be considered as a bridge connecting Physics and Engineering. It is often translated as Technical Physics and includes a variety of specializations such as nanotechnology, biomechanics, biophysics, astrodynamics and many other.

Structure of Engineering Physics study programs

The program structure of Engineering Physics is different from other study programs in Engineering. The main difference between these disciplines is that Engineering Physics students undertake many core courses in Physics - mostly the same as Physics students. Even full semesters of Bachelor study programs in Engineering Physics are dedicated to Physics.

An undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics is usually considered as a first step to academic career. It is not as specific and practical as other degrees in Engineering, so many graduates in Engineering Physics apply for Master study programs in other disciplines, such as Physics or Mathematics or Chemistry.

Entry requirements for Engineering Physics applicants

Those who wish to apply for a Bachelor study program in Engineering Physics usually need to hold excellent grades in Physics and Mathematics, sometimes universities also require applicants to have high scores in Biology and Chemistry, it depends on the structure of the chosen program and its specialization.  Many foreign universities ask future students to complete at least one year of  relevant undergraduate education in their home country with high GPA scores before applying for an undergraduate study program.

English proficiency is a mandatory requirement for all applicants. since all study programs in Engineering Physics which can be found on our website are taught in English. Those applicants whose native language is other from English need to pass a language test - IELTS, TOEFL or equivalent - and submit its results with the application form. Those applicants who have already completed a degree in English usually do not have to submit the results of language tests again.

Usually it is more difficult to pass admission for Engineering Physics study programs than for Physics study programs because of extra courses in Engineering, so those who are more interested in theoretical physics topics should better choose study programs in Physics (or joint study programs in Physics and Mathematics).
