About DTU

DTU is an independent and self-governing university with a Board of Governors as its highest authority. The Academic Council oversees a range of academic matters, and the President is responsible for the day-to-day management of the University.

DTU is managed in a line and staff organization with an unbroken chain of command in which managers have personal management responsibility for each organizational unit.

The University’s main activities are organized in line units: departments, centres and institutes; a national laboratory for sustainable energy; and subsidiaries when activities are appropriately organized using the arm's length principle. Support activities are organized in staff units.

    DTU Aqua conducts research, provides advice, educates and contributes to innovation in sustainable exploitation and management of aquatic resources. We investigate the biology and population ecology of aquatic organisms, aquatic physics and chemical processes, ecosystem structure and dynamics.

    At DTU Electrical Engineering we educate engineers within Electrical Engineering technologies as well as Biomedical Engineering. We offer studies at BEng, BSc, MSc and PhD levels. The department also participates in international Master programmes. We conduct research within biomedical engineering, antenna and microwave technology, robot technology.

    At the Department of Energy Conversion and Storage we work on sustainable energy technologies. In the energy system of the future a large part of the energy will be supplied by fluctuating sources such as solar and wind power. This makes it critically important to be able to convert and store the energy as needed.

We are interested in finding out more about the pathogenesis, spreading and symptoms of the diseases and eventually develop new vaccines against them. History

When the College of Advanced Technology was founded in 1829, Denmark had its first MSc programme in Engineering at a high academic level. The College changed its name and became the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in 1994. 

H.C. Ørsted founded the College in the image of École Polytechnique in France. The objective was to educate young men to work in industry, but in the beginning DTU was not able to teach practice, so the college mainly educated technical teachers.

After industrialisation in the beginning of the 1870s engineers from DTU began to fill public-sector posts and they began to play a major role in industry. Still, most major engineering projects were carried out by foreign companies. But in the 1880s, foreign companies lost their influence and Danish engineers began working abroad.

Just after the turn of the last century DTU finally achieved an international level of excellence. In the first two decades of the 1900s, Danish engineers captured the international scene in engineering. DTU was now ready to educate the engineers needed to create the modern industrial society.

Accreditation and Rankings

In 2014, DTU was granted an Institutional accreditation by the Danish Accreditation Institution (member of ENQA). TheInstitutional accreditation assures that the quality assurance system of the institution is well described, well-argued, and well-functioning in practice.

Living expenses

The Danish Agency for Labour Retention and International Recruitment requires that all non-EU/EEA citizens seeking to spend a year in Denmark can demonstrate minimum funds of DKK 50,000 (fifty thousand Danish kroner - approximately Euro 6,750) to cover their expenses while living in Denmark. 

Approximate expenses per month: 745-1470 EUR (5550 - 10980 DKK)

Rent: 335-800 EUR (2500 - 6000 DKK)

Food and household expenses: 228 EUR (1700 DKK)

Transport: 0-165 EUR per month (0-1230 DKK per month) / monthly travel card: 42-158 EUR (320-1180 DKK)

 

Other studying possibilities

Summer University DTU

The Summer University DTU Programme offers courses with instruction entirely in English language for BSc and MSc students of engineering or related natural science programmes. 

International students from DTU partner universities are invited to come to DTU for a 1-3 months period during which they will follow one or more of the offered Summer University DTU courses. Students who are accepted for the Summer University programme will be able to sign up for courses from 1 to 15 May.

Summer Course in Danish Language and Culture (ECTS credited)

DTU offers international MSc students and exchange students at DTU a three week long, ECTS credited course in the Danish language and culture.

The objective of the course is to introduce the students to the Danish language and culture in order to enable them to communicate by using Danish in simple everyday situations. It is not a prerequisite to know any Danish in order to participate.

The cultural component of the course will give the students a broad knowledge of the Danish society. Lectures on Danish society and history will be held by instructors as well as members of the local society. The lectures will be on the structure of the Danish political system, the labor market and Danish industry, as well as on Danish literature and Danish customs. This will give the students the relevant knowledge and understanding to enable them to participate in conversations with their future Danish friends and colleagues.

The course will be concluded by an examination.
