This is one of the best paths into the accounting profession and combines a rigorous academic programme with technical training. Accounting and Finance at UCLan has accreditation from a number of prestigious professional bodies, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). You’ll develop your intellectual capacity, analytical skills and have a strong knowledge and understanding of accounting, enabling you to work in audit, tax and accountancy businesses as well as in financial functions within other organisations.

A 3 year degree qualification typically comprises 360 credits and each 20 credit (a standard module) equates to 200 hours of study, which comprises of a mixture of lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical sessions and independent study. Independent study is an important aspect of your degree course. The exact combination of study time will be detailed within your module descriptors, and will depend on your option choices.
You will benefit from a variety of teaching and learning methods including: lectures, seminars, practical workshops, group activities, personal research and case studies. Personal study and independent research also form an integral part of the course. Some modules are part web-based with links to organisations such as professional bodies.
Assessment includes essays; reports; oral presentations; group assessments; investigating companies and tackling briefs from industry. All module final assessment, with the exception of the Introduction to Personal & Professional Practice module, are in the form of written exams. Assessment weighting for each module is typically, 30% Coursework, 70% exam.
During your first year you will, on average, attend between 14 and 16 hours of formal study per week. In the second and final year attendance will typically be between 12 -14 hours per week. During the optional placement you follow the normal work pattern of your chosen company.
Many of the tutors are chartered accountants with years of industry experience and several hold PhDs.
The Business School's state-of-the-art Greenbank and Brook buildings are in the middle of the campus offering a comprehensive range of study, learning and social facilities including a cybercafé and easy access PC workstation rooms.
