Description
During the first three years students complete six semesters and minimum of 90-102 credits of undergraduate courses, to include 36-44 credits of general education and math courses and 25-27 credits in science courses. The Respiratory Care specialty track is taken in the fourth year at the Rutgers Health Sciences Campus at Newark. This professional component, 12 months in duration, builds upon the student's knowledge in basic sciences to provide specific education in respiratory care and to develop sensitivity toward health care related issues.
Classroom instruction, integrated with clinical practice at affiliate hospital sites prepares students for a career in in the field of respiratory care upon graduation. Graduates receive a Joint BS Degree from the Newark College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Health Related Professions. Graduates from the joint BSAHT are also eligible for both the entry-level licensure (CRT) and Advanced Practitioner (RRT) examinations offered by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).

Applicants to the Respiratory Care Program-North must meet the following admission criteria:- hold a high school diploma or GED certificate and meet all admission requirements of the collaborating institution
- complete at least 90-100 credits of general education and science course work while maintaining a "C" grade or better in all program pre-requisites
- GPA of at least a 2.75
- completions of the following mandatory pre-requisites by the Spring semester before starting the Program: College Algebra, Psychology, English 101 & 102, Anatomy and Physiology I and II (with a lab), Microbiology (with a lab), College Chemistry (with a lab), General Physics (strongly recommended but not required)
- HOBET Entrance exam (to be taken at Rutgers-SHRP)
- Entrance interview
