The Bachelor of Science in Interactive Media at the University of Miami is a comprehensive program designed to prepare students for dynamic careers in the rapidly evolving digital landscape. This innovative degree combines technical skills, creative design, and theoretical knowledge to enable students to develop compelling multimedia content, interactive applications, and digital experiences across various platforms. Students will engage with cutting-edge technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality, mobile applications, web development, and multimedia production to create engaging user experiences. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning through projects, collaborations, and real-world applications, allowing students to build a versatile portfolio that demonstrates their proficiency in interactive design, programming, storytelling, and multimedia production. Throughout the program, students will explore fundamental concepts of user interface design, user experience (UX), digital storytelling, and human-computer interaction, ensuring they understand both the technical and conceptual aspects of interactive media. The faculty comprises experienced professionals and researchers dedicated to mentoring students and fostering innovation. Graduates of the Interactive Media program are prepared for careers in digital media production, UX/UI design, game development, multimedia marketing, and other creative industries, equipped with the skills needed to thrive in a competitive digital economy. Students must complete a minimum of 45 credit hours at the graduate level with an average of B and no grade lower than a C-. Prior written approval is required from both the chair of the interactive media program and the director of graduate studies for transfer credit hours, for course substitutions as well as for taking a course at another university.

Students are required to register for a capstone project seminar. To register for this course, students must complete all courses with a standing 3.0 GPA. The capstone course is designed to help students define and execute their final projects. To graduate, students must complete and present a fully articulated capstone project and related documentation.

Students must complete all master’s degree requirements within 6 years.

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the United States, or its
    equivalent from a foreign institution

    score of 100 on the TOEFL

    A 500-word typed essay submitted during the online application
  • Application Fee
    Pay the $65 non-refundable application fee. The fee can be paid when you submit your application
    online.
  • Three letters of recommendation
    Three letters of recommendation are required from individuals who can assess your potential for
    graduate study. You may register your recommenders in the online application system so that they
    can submit their letters electronically. You may also send letters of recommendation by email to
    socgrad@miami.edu, or sent to our mailing address 
  • Students are encouraged to submit a portfolio. Click here to submit portfolio. Hard-copy or USB portfolios
    may also be mailed to the address below. Please note that we do not return portfolios or USB sticks.
    Students may choose to submit their GRE score if they don’t have a portfolio. Submitting a GRE instead of a
    portfolio will not affect their chances of getting accepted. Students may also submit both their GRE and

Scholarships

Graduate assistants are assigned to a faculty member to provide support for projects, teaching, and/or administrative duties. A student receiving a full assistantship is required to work 20 hours under the supervision of their assigned faculty member. Students awarded full assistantships receive a tuition waiver for 12 credits per semester (9 credits in the 4th semester) and a monthly stipend (totaling up to $15,000 per academic year). Depending on available funding and the applicant pool, half and quarter assistantships are also available.
