Physics specializations

Physics is a very diverse discipline, covering a lot of specializations, for example, Astrophysics, Biophysics, Chemical Physics, Cryophysics, Electromagnetism, Laser Physics, Molecular Physics, Plasma Physics, String Theory and many other. This diversity is caused the nature of Physics as a science - it studies whole universe we live in, from boundless expanses of cosmos to atomic structure, from theories of the origin of the universe to the physics of neural connections in the human brain.

Entry requirements

Those who wish to apply for a study program in Physics obviously need to have excellent grades in Physics and Mathematics, as these programs are usually very competitive. Some specializations also require high grades in Natural Sciences, such as Biology or Chemistry. Language proficiency is also always required.

Program structure

The structure of Physics study programs is usually quite comprehensive and varies from university to university. But usually the curriculum is based on lectures and seminars, just like any other study program. Students also will undertake a lot of laboratory work, which content depends on the chosen specialization. During the final years of education, students work on their research project, which they submit at the end of the education.

Students completed an undergraduate study program in Physics receive a Bachelor of Science degree. Some universities also provide a combined study program, which lasts up to six years, and after completing this program, graduates receive a Master of Science degree.

Joint degree, when Physics is combined with some other discipline, for example, IT, is quite popular nowadays. It gives students an opportunity to receive more specific education and develop all skills which will be useful in the chosen career path. The list of future career opportunities is also  wider for Joint Degree graduates.
