Description

The Africana Studies and Research Program at Rutgers Camden is an exciting interdisciplinary program with a focus on Societies and Cultures of the African Diaspora. These include the countries of the African Continent and the African derived and influenced cultures and societies of North America, South America, Central America and the Caribbean.

Students in the Africana Studies and Research Program at Rutgers–Camden receive a broad and varied exposure to Africana culture, economics, politics, and history both nationally and internationally. In this interdisciplinary major, professors from several departments teach innovative courses in literature, religion, dance, art, sociology, anthropology, criminal justice and history about the Africana experience. Many Africana studies majors choose to go directly into the workplace after graduation, while other graduates pursue graduate school in such diverse areas as Africana studies, public administration, business, education, social work, and law. Our faculty have connections with Cornell, Brown University, and the University of Pennsylvania and direct our students to the most prestigious graduate schools and professional programs.
