Description

Unlike most other archaeology and anthropology courses in the UK, Bournemouth’s course allows you to pursue a bespoke programme which, in the first year, will provide you with a thorough grounding in archaeological and anthropological method and theory. You can either choose to specialise in social or biological or anthropology or archaeology, or to pursue a balanced course of study emphasising two or all three subjects. The wide variety of options available for you to choose from in your second and third years are drawn from across the Schools of Applied Sciences and Health and Social Care and offer a blend of science and humanities subjects, as well as practical, hands-on training in the field and laboratory. Depending on the options you choose, you will cover a comprehensive range of topics including archaeological and anthropological theory, social anthropology, human and animal biology and skeletal analysis, human evolution and prehistory and field archaeology, all taught by leading practitioners in their fields.

The combination of archaeology and anthropology is uniquely placed to tackle some of the big questions about humanity, and alongside the transferable skills you will be equipped with, you’ll also gain a rich understanding of the interpretation, behaviour, and material culture of human communities and how they functioned in the past and today. Along the way you will also gain a range of valuable transferable skills in the acquisition, understanding and analysis of a wide range of different kinds of information, the ability to communicate your findings and to use them to develop creative solutions to many different kinds of problems – skills necessary for a wide range of different careers.
