The discipline of art history examines the artistic heritage of mankind from aesthetic and historical perspectives. The department focuses its educational efforts on teaching effective methodologies for the study of the above disciplines and on imparting basic knowledge of the fields to students.

The departmental student association takes into account student opinion on a variety of issues and attempts to reflect the voice of the students in decision-making processes. It also serves as a forum for the exchange of views between students in the department.

Graduates are also employed in professional research institutions such as the National Research Institute of Cultural Properties and the Cultural Properties Administration.
