The Dutch Guide to Colleges 2013 has rated Artificial Intelligence in Groningen number 1 of all similar programs in the Netherlands.
In the international Bachelor's degree programme in Artificial Intelligence you will study intelligence and develop 'intelligent' and user-friendly products.
This international degree programme focuses on human thinking, artificial thinking (computers, robots) and behaviour in social systems (e.g. group behaviour). You will study the underlying processes in order to predict or simulate behaviour
Interdisciplinary curriculum
Artificial Intelligence draws on knowledge from various disciplines, such as cognitive psychology, linguistics, computing science, logic and philosophy. You will develop skills in these areas in the first year, after which you deepen your knowledge in the subdiscipline you prefer, such as the technical aspects or cognitive science.
Translating knowledge into practical applications
There are many applications in which intelligence and usable technology are indispensable, in ticket machines for example. This degree programme therefore has a strong practical orientation.
Job perspectivesA degree in Artificial Intelligence equips you for a wide range of fields, precisely because your knowledge is so broad and you can approach matters from various perspectives. You can also communicate well with other specialists in the discipline. That makes you highly employable for companies and organizations. You will have broad knowledge and a logical reasoning ability therefore excellent career prospects!
Finding work when you graduate
Many graduates find suitable jobs in the business sector in the Netherlands or abroad. Other graduates choose another path, such as setting up their own business.Once they have their Bachelor's degree, most students choose a related Master's programme in Artificial Intelligence or Human-Machine Communication. When you chose Artificial Intelligence you can work at institutions who work with large date files, like hospitals or banks. You can also find a job at research and development deparments of multinationals and build autonomous systems. When you go for human-machine communication, you can become a cognitive ergonomist and develop software and devices.
User-friendly software or devices
With your Master's degree you are employable in companies that produce software or devices. Among other things, your work will involve making these as user-friendly as possible.

The Groningen science and engineering programmes stand out for their academic excellence. The work pace in the first year is generally high and the courses contents demanding. The first year curriculum concentrates on laying a sound basis for our engineering and natural science disciplines. This allows our students to chooise their specialisation tracks already in their second Bachelor's year.
Credits per year: 60 ECTS; most courses are 5 ECTS.

We offer a foundation year for students who do not meet the admissions requirements, in association with the Holland International Study Centre. The Foundation year will help you develop your academic skills and English language to the required standard, after which you can progress to the first year of your Bachelor's programme.
