The MA in Asian Studies (CKE81) is a one-year full-time programme.

The MA Asian Studies is a sister programme of the MA in Contemporary Chinese Culture and Business and offers graduates from the arts, humanities, social sciences, business, science and engineering an understanding of Asian societies including culture, education, social systems, politics, business and management; to develop linguistic and intercultural skills necessary to work in or relate to Asia and Asian countries; and to gain experience in living and working in Asian countries.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES:
* To cater for the growing interest in and awareness of Asia in Ireland by providing language and academic study in a range of Asia-related fields.
* To equip students to pursue further studies and/or work in Asia or Asia-related fields.

Duration: 1 year full-time including 20 weeks in Asia

Programme Structure

Part I (September-December)
In Part I students will have intensive language training, and classes on research methods and training, orientalism, international history of East Asia, business in East Asia, and East Asian states, markets and social systems.

Some of these classes will be taught in the form of workshops. By the end of Part I, students will develop an individual research interest in close co-operation with their supervisors.

Part II (January June)
For Part II, students will go to our Asian partner institutions to further pursue their language, culture and business education in the country of their main interest. They will conduct research for their dissertations in close co-operation with their supervisors at UCC and with the support from staff from our partner universities.

Part III (July to September)
Students will return to UCC for Part III to finalize their research dissertations and present their findings at the final workshop, which will be assessed by their UCC supervisors.
