The MSc course can be completed on a one-year full-time basis or on a part-time basis, generally over two years. The course is based on the collaboration of academic staff with expertise in statistics, biosciences, computer science, genetic epidemiology and bioinformatics from departments across the University. Students will study nine from eleven modules.
The Core I and Core II modules will enable students to obtain a broad understanding of biosciences, biostatistics and bioinformatics. By having the opportunity to choose from the Specialist Option modules, the student is able to specialise in either genetic epidemiology or bioinformatics, providing a tailored approach to future career development. The MSc students are required to undertake a research project to examine in-depth issues related to the specialist area. Individual modules can also be taken as independent units.
Assessment of modules is by a combination of examination and project assessments; the MSc also requires successful completion of a written dissertation.
Special Features:
* Flexibility to specialise in Genetic Epidemiology or Bioinformatics.
