Description

This programme aims to provide students with knowledge of molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, and physiology in the context of human disease and therapeutics as well as the practical techniques used in the field. For example, courses include Metabolism and Disease, Medical Biochemistry, Cancer Biology and Therapeutics, and Medical Microbiology.

The programme also aims to prepare students for employment including curriculum vitae preparation, interview skills, and building communication skills through a variety of stimulating and varied learning environments that can be built on throughout the student’s professional life. Many students continue to postgraduate degrees and obtain MSc and PhD degrees for careers in research and the pharmaceutical industry. Others enjoy employment in teaching or scientific journalism- just to name a few possible career paths.

Student placements are facilitated through networking and our Erasmus programme which offers summers placements in places like Istanbul, Turkey and Palermo, Italy.

The programme has strong links with professional bodies such as The Biochemical Society and The Society of Biology. Representatives from these professional bodies present talks on campus and students have the opportunity to take part in their events (for example: Voice of the Future) and compete for prizes.
