The Master’s Degree Programme in Biomedical Imaging provides you with strong knowledge on either cellular biology, anatomy and physiology, or biophysics, depending on the area of specialisation. You will study in a highly international environment and gain excellent theoretical and practical skills in a wide range of imaging techniques and applications as well as in image analysis.

In addition, the Programme emphasises understanding the use of multimedia in a scientific context and excellent academic writing skills. The interdisciplinary curriculum provides you with a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art knowledge in biomedical imaging related to many different areas in cell biology and biomedicine.

The graduates have the possibility to continue their studies as doctoral candidates in order to pursue a career as a scientist, in industry or science administration, and in an imaging core facility or a hospital research laboratory.

The Programme is open to applicants with sufficient background knowledge in life sciences and/or natural sciences, and with a lower university degree, a BSc degree (180 ECTS), in the field of:

  • biomedical sciences
  • biology
  • biochemistry
  • medical sciences
  • other life sciences
  • physics
  • chemistry
  • engineering

The applicants should be familiar with the basics of laboratory practice and pharmacology. Both Finnish and international students are welcome to apply to the Programme.

The student selection process has two stages. First, the admission committee selects the candidates for an interview by scoring the following application components:

  • compatibility of the student’s background
  • previous academic success and study history
  • laboratory working experience
  • motivation letter

Selected applicants will be invited to the interview 1-2 weeks in advance. Interviews will be held via Skype.

The interview performance, including English skills, is separately scored. In addition, an applicant may receive additional points from a written thesis and possible academic awards and/or stipends and completing a pre-assignment task during the interview.
