The goal is to educate students with leading competence in biomedical research that are well prepared for independent work in medical research and development, also in leading positions, in an academic environment as well as in private or public sectors.

The first semester of studies is devoted to advanced studies including state of the art experimental laboratory work with methodology of high relevance for biomedical research areas. Applied biostatistics that relates to questions raised during the courses given this semester, Cell and Tissue Culturing and Experimental Animal Models, are embedded.

The second semester gives possibilities to individually profile the education depending on field of interest. There are several elective courses within several areas, such as cancer, immunology or neurosciences. The third semester also contains elective courses that can be chosen based on interest. Among the courses offered, some are related to future PhD studies and others to professions outside the academy, e.g. work within pharmaceutical companies. During the last semester an independent research project should be performed either at the university or at private companies, in Sweden or abroad. The program includes 2 years of full-time studies (120 ECTS). It is given by the Medical Faculty, and leads to a Master of Medical Science, with a Major in Biomedicine. The education is given in a research environment at the newly established Biomedical Research Centre in Lund.
