The PhD Programme in Biomedicine provides graduate students a framework to develop a research project and complete a doctoral thesis in the fields of health and life sciences.

The Department of Experimental and Health Sciences (DCEXS) in which this doctoral programme is run, includes a large number of research groups organized into the following research programmes:

  • Cell and Molecular Biology
  • Molecular Medicine
  • Evolutionary Biology and Complex Systems
  • Biomedical Informatics
  • Genetics and Neurosciences
  • Public Health and Education in Health Sciences  

We welcome graduate students from natural and medical sciences such as Biology, Physics, Medicine or Biochemistry, as well as from quantitative sciences such as Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science.

Our doctoral programme carries out all of its activities in English and every year attracts a large number of students from abroad. These activities aim at preparing students to become independent researchers pursuing a scientific career.

The contents of this doctoral programme have been verified by the Spanish National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) who also awarded a "Quality Label towards Excellence" (MEE2011-0323).

Requirements

  • In order to be admitted to Biomedicine PhD Programme offered by UPF, candidates must provide accreditation that they have obtained an accredited undergraduate degree (Bachelor degree or recognised equivalent degree from an accredited Higher Education Institution).  
  • Moreover, they have to proof that they have obtained or are in position to obtain an accredited graduate/master's degree(equivalent to a Spanish Master Universitario/Oficial, Master's of Research.... ) which enables them to access a Phd programme in their home country. 
  • In order to access a doctoral programme at UPF, you need to have completed 300 ECTS credits, 60 of those have to correspond to an official graduate, research orientated master's programme.
  • A photocopy of the undergraduate degree/diploma or Certification/proof of degree completion  (Bachelor degree or recognised equivalent degree from an accredited Higher Education Institution).
    A photocopy of the official final undergraduate transcript. 
  • A photocopy of the graduate/master's degree/diploma or Certification/proof of degree completion.
  • A photocopy of the official final graduate/master's transcript .
  • A signed declaration of obtaining your graduate/master's degree before the commencement of the master's programme 
  • A photocopy of the provisional graduate/master's transcript.
  • Letter of acceptance into a laboratory  and personal and research data of the ​PhD thesis supervisor, in case he​/she​ does not belong to the UPF​ or to the CRG ​.
  • Research project
  • In case the PhD thesis supervisor does not belong to the UPF/CRG/IBE, the student should be accepted by a UPF Principal Investigator to act as his/her tutor. The student should present an acceptance letter signed by the UPF tutor during the registration process.
  • Identity Card or Passport.
