The Institute of Cardiovascular Science (ICS) offers an exciting opportunity to spend one year expanding your scientific skills and experience on three projects with different Institute scientists, from a wide range of research areas before choosing what you want to specialise in for the remaining three years on the programme.
UCL is a world-class centre of excellence in cardiovascular research and medicine. Over 400 cardiovascular scientists and cardiologists undertake basic, clinical and population-based research to improve our understanding of disease and provide new diagnostics, therapies and preventative strategies. The British Heart Foundation (BHF) have provided funding for the following postgraduate scheme.
Up to four BHF studentships will be available in any area of cardiovascular biomedicine. The first year provides postgraduate-level tuition in relevant topics, training in transferable research skills, opportunities to visit research units and two or three three month-long projects, which provide a basis for the candidate to select a doctoral project and supervisors. During their PhD thesis research, students are encouraged to present their work at international meetings, and funds will be made available for this purpose. PhD projects will cover the entire range of activity across the UCL campus, and so applicants are advised to familiarise themselves with our research.
