Course Content

Year 1

You will take compulsory introductory modules in economics and business. Gaining these skills is crucial in developing a strong foundation in the relevant economics and business disciplines. They are: Introductory Economics; Introductory Mathematics and Statistics for Economists; and Core Business Disciplines.

Year 2

You will strengthen your understanding of the macro and microeconomy, by covering material from the first year in greater depth and by studying new areas. In Applied Economic Analysis you will continue to build your statistical skills, while simultaneously applying the techniques you will acquire in a module specifically designed to enhance the employability of our economics graduates.

This degree also allows you to focus on and learn about the importance of business strategies and the significance of increasing globalisation. Your compulsory modules are: Intermediate Economics; and Applied Economic Analysis. Optional modules include: Economics of International Business and Trade; Behavioural Economics, Risk and Strategic Thinking.

Year 3

Case studies will be used to investigate the nature of the competitive process through a focus on the behaviour of firms. Industries are comprised of groups of firms supplying similar goods or services. Firms in a given industry do not operate in isolation from one another so you will look at what factors determine whether firms compete or collude, and why and how should government intervene in the competitive process.

You will take two compulsory modules, Industrial Organisation and Competition Economics, which deals with markets, business and competition, and Advanced Economics which covers advanced economic modelling and theory in both macro and microeconomics in the year-long module and a choice from: Development and Economic Growth; Labour Economics; Government, Welfare and Policy; Option Pricing and Financial Risk Management; The Economics of Corporate Finance and Financial Markets.
