The Chemical Engineering programme at Aalborg University Esbjerg, Denmark, allows you to combine your creative and technical skills in a programme with focus on research and development as well as planning and implementation of operation and maintenance tasks within chemical and chemically related production.
In addition to becoming a highly skilled technical expert, you learn to consider the importance of economic and environmental aspects and learn to work and navigate in an international environment. The globalised world we live in demands well developed cooperation skills that you will require through the exciting joint student projects performed in close cooperation with the industry.
The global society is in increasing need of chemical engineers that understand complicated chemical and biochemical processes and are capable of innovative thinking concerning development of novel techniques and products for a better utilisation of our resources and protection of the environment.
In addition to considerable increments in your theoretical and experimental levels you will get fundamental knowledge concerning the chemical industry, how it is organised and central processes and unit operations. You learn to develop mathematical models of the processes you are investigating and to apply different types of software for simulation and optimisation.
Research within the university supporting this programme is diverse in the areas of:
- environmental engineering
- materials science, polymers
- multivariate data and image analysis
- renewable energy production
- high temperature and high pressure processes
- computational chemistry and spectroscopy
- enhanced oil and gas recovery
Through the extensive project work you will have plenty of opportunity to test you own ideas in real life and in cooperation with both local Danish as well as international companies. As a student, this provides you with good insight into the world outside of the university and with a professional network you can use for future job opportunities.
The master programme in Chemical Engineering allows you to immerse and profile yourself within three main areas: Energy, environmental chemistry and material science. Profiling occurs through choice of subject for the project.
The First Study Year (1th and 2nd semester) -Process Analysis and Modelling
During the first two semesters you will get intensive knowledge of several core areas within chemical engineering. Already during the first study year you will begin to choose your main area of specialisation.
Project modules
- Process Analysis (1th semester)
- Process Modelling (2nd semester)
Courses
- Fluid Mechanics
- Colloid and Interface Chemistry
- Chemometrics
- Process Simulation
- Water Treatment
- Polymers and Properties of polymers
2nd Study Year (3rd and 4th semester)
- Advanced Chemical Engineering
During the second study year you will do projects within self-chosen subjects. The project can be split into two separate projects or be a long one year master thesis project. Two projects are ideal if you want to pursue the option of studying one semester abroad in another country or to include an internship in a company as part of your education.
Projects during the second study year are typically carried out in association with on-going research projects or in cooperation with external cooperation partners. Many students are offered job opportunities in continuation of this cooperation.
The projects these last two semesters are usually organised in smaller student groups of two or three members or as individual projects. No planned courses are offered, but there is the opportunity to arrange smaller courses (study circles) that relate to the specific subjects you as student choose to engage in.
