Commerce (Accounting and Finance)

Students of this degree study a selection of subjects including bookkeeping, corporations law, tax law, derivatives, risk management methods and charge assessment, and will learn how to control risks in financial services firms and price a range of financial instruments, such as shares and debentures. Graduates are prepared to work as an accountant in the finance business, or as a financial analyst, providing investment information based on assessing the financial statements of potential investees. Students will: Exercise critical thinking skills when working with ambiguous and incomplete advice; identify and obtain relevant advice for decision making and providing information to stakeholders from many different backgrounds; use discipline-specific technologies to analyse complex problems in various contexts; and take part in a range of authentic, Function Integrated Learning chances to reflect and improve professional practice in areas of communication, decision and crosscultural team work.

Admission to this course is based in an entry rank. A rank can be achieved by means of a year 12 ATAR, other Australian eligibility, work experience, or an international qualification.
