Completion to the standard of Second Class Honours, Division 1 or better, is the normal mode of entry to candidature for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) with Second Class Honours, Division 2 allowing enrolment for the research Master of Science.

1. Admission to a final honours course shall be at the discretion of the Head of the School of Science and Technology and subject to the provisions of Rules 2. and 3.
2. (a) Except as provided in Rule 2.(b) a candidate for admission to a final honours course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Computer Science with Honours, shall have fulfilled the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Computer Science.
(b) The Head of the School of Science and Technology on the recommendation of the course coordinator, may approve for admission to a final honours course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Computer Science with Honours, a candidate who has fulfilled the requirements for an appropriate degree or other qualification of equivalent standing at a university or other institution recognised by the school for this purpose. The school may require additional evidence which will be specified in each case of the ability of such a candidate to undertake a final honours course in Computer Science.
3. Normally, candidature for the degree shall commence at the beginning of the year following that in which the candidate qualifies in terms of Rule 2. Candidature may be commenced at other times only with the approval of the Head of the School of Science and Technology.
4. On admission the candidate shall lodge an application form with the course coordinator.
