Description
The degree of Computing Science prepares you to work with the rapidly changing technology of computing by giving you a strong grounding in the theory of computing science. In the first year you will be introduced to the core material that underpins computer science. In the second and third years of the course you will be able to structure your degree from a wide range of computing science subjects including networks, artificial intelligence, computer graphics, databases, image processing and embedded systems, allowing you to tailor your degree to your own interests and career aspirations. During your third year you will work on an extensive project which focusses on a topic at the cutting edge of computing science.
Contact time
Students have on average 15 hours of contact time per week with teaching staff through lectures, laboratory sessions and seminars, though this may vary depending on module choices. Additionally, students should allocate at least 25 hours per week for study, coursework assignments and projects.
Career opportunities
Depending on which specialties you studied during your degree course, you will have the necessary skills to work in many application areas of computing science, for example computer games development, financial systems development, machine learning, data mining, computational biology and many more.
