The MSc Dermatology Skills & Treatment is a taught, masters programme for clinicians, wishing to develop or extend practical skills, knowledge and experience in clinical dermatology.

It has an emphasis on developing practical competencies; good diagnostic skills, appropriate and timely management of common chronic skin diseases to reflect current trends in clinical dermatology.

This programme is supplemented by lectures, seminars, workshops, clinical skills demonstrations, clinical placements and conference presentations by academic staff and invited expert clinicians.

This course focuses on clinical skills and has a practical emphasis. Students have the advantage of having lectures and clinics led by dermatology expertsand being taught in a variety of dermatology clinics.

Students will attend small group seminars and tutorials and have the additional support of a personal tutor. This course has a wide choice of modules and there is also an opportunity to attend short courses and conferences offered by the department.

Careers

This programme offers excellent opportunities for continuing professional development for practicing health professionals. It is an MSc programme, but UK clinicians can choose to study specific modules relevant to their professional practice as short courses.

International students should note that completion of this course does not lead to registration to practice in the UK or endorse clinicians to consider themselves a specialist in dermatology in the UK. This programme may be sufficient for practitioners to work as a specialist dermatologist in their country of origin, local requirements should be checked prior to commencing the programme.

The MSc Dermatology Skills & Treatment comprises of 6 taught modules (30 credits each) of 12 weeks duration.

Successful completion of the programme leads to award of an MSc Dermatology Skills and Treatment. Achievement of a Postgraduate Diploma in Dermatology Skills and Treatment is possible for those who are unable to complete the final dissertation project.

A minimum of 2 specialist optional modules (60 credits) must be studied plus 2 compulsory core modules (60 credits). The remaining credits may be selected from optional modules of common interest.

1 Participants must be GMC registered and have access to patients with skin lesions requiring skin surgery

Applicants will normally have : * completed a relevant university degree & have a recognised professional qualification * 2 years post qualifying clinical experience * Current clinical experience of a minimum of 1 year in a clinical setting with access to patients with chronic skin conditions * All students from non-majority English speaking countries require proof of English language proficiency. A minimum IELTS 6.0 is required . English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6 IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa.
