This class provides an introduction into the preparation fundamentals, practices and techniques used by urban and regional partners. Examples and applications draw Western Australian, interstate and overseas examples. In addition, it can supply mid-career training for practising partners from developing states. A distinguishing characteristic of the course could be using interdisciplinary knowledge and techniques in addressing environmental, social and design issues of concern to the community. It is now widely recognized that powerful human settlements needs to be properly planned and a range of legal and non-statutory controls exist at all levels of government to protect the public attention in the development procedure. The engagement of public and community groups in the preparation and execution of plans would be now considered vital to successful advancement outcomes.
