Available to all caregivers, this multi-disciplinary course develops appropriately capable students for work as caregivers in the area of diabetes education and management in a number of settings. Students have strong involvement with professors and clinicians from major teaching hospitals and diabetes centers. The class approaches diabetes education and management in scientific, aetiology and pathophysiological viewpoints in addition to investigating notions of health behavior and the implications these have for practise. Students test the systems set up to avoid and manage diabetes with a emphasis on the self management form of care. Career options consist of diabetes educators and managers in various settings. Professionals using areas are also eligible to employ to gain Credentialed Diabetes Educator status authorised by the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) and AHPRA.

Practitioners from the fields listed here are permitted proceed with the credentialing process through the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) to obtain authorisation as a credentialed diabetes instructor when they have completed this accredited class (a compulsory prerequisite of their credentialing process). Eligible fields include: registered nurses (RN or division one); accredited practising dieticians; registered medical professionals; documented pharmacists; podiatrists; accredited exercise physiologists; physiotherapists; and enrolled midwives.

  • UTS recognised bachelor level, or equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional credentials which shows possibility to pursue graduate studies. Previous qualifications have to be within an medical field such as nursing, allied health or medicine. Applicants should have had at least 12 months's full time expert services within their medical discipline, partly within an diabetes-related clinical area. It's presumed that applicants have a fundamental knowledge of this practice of diabetes education and direction. The English competency requirement for local applicants with international credentials is: Academic IELTS: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0
