Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this programme, students should be able to:

* Articulate in discussion, in writing and/or in practice some key features of contemporary theatre practice and theory;
* Analyse and evaluate specific examples of research practice in drama, theatre, applied theatre and/or performance;
* Express in discussion, writing and/or practice an awareness of a range of approaches to issues in one or more of the following specialisations: dramaturgy, playwriting, devising practices, performance or applications of theatre and drama in social fields;
* Carry out specific assignments in bibliographic research and literature review in a specialist area of theatre and drama;
* Identify and develop a substantial individual research project within the field, articulate the relevant methodological issues, project-plan it and bring it to completion.

This twelve-month Masters degree offers students an intense and rigorous advanced training through seminar and studio work, productions and individual research projects. Under the newly re-configured programme, postgraduate students specialise in one of the following:applied theatre and drama, theatre practice, or text and dramaturgy. The MA is run by the Board of Drama and Theatre Studies at UCC, and draws on staff from Drama and Theatre Studies, Education, English, French, German, Italian, Music and Spanish. There is a lively context of debate around theatre and performance at The Granary Theatre. This includes PERFORUM (a fortnightly series of talks and performances), and a programme of workshops given by visiting professional practitioners

Part II

* DR6019 Practice as Research Project (40 credits) Postgraduate Diploma in Drama and Theatre Studies

DR6020 is a stand-alone Directed Study module. It is designed to enable students who have enrolled in the MA in Drama and Theatre Studies and who have successfully completed Part 1 (above) but not completed Part 2 (above) to become eligible instead for award of a Postgraduate Diploma in Drama and Theatre Studies. A student who has successfully completed the 50 credits of relevant MA coursework, may, in consultation with programme staff, opt to complete the 10 credit Directed Study module (DR6020) instead of taking the Part II Research Project (DR6016, DR6017 or DR6019). Upon successful completion of 60 credits the student will be eligible for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma in Drama and Theatre Studies.

Candidates must have a Second Class Honours, Grade 2 BA Degree, or equivalent, along with evidence of an established commitment to the field of Drama and Theatre Studies. Applicants with significant professional-level drama and theatre experience will also be considered.
