Specialisations / Tracks

  • Economics (specialization)

Are you interested in social and economic problems? Then the Economics specialization may be the perfect choice for you.

Economists develop models to obtain an understanding of economic phenomena. They look at economic data, try to make sense of it and explain its implications to others. It could be said that economics is a way of looking at the world. As such, the number of applications is almost limitless. Therefore, in this Bachelor's degree, a wide range of topics is addressed, from banking and monetary issues to the origins of economic growth and economic differences between countries and regions.

The Economics specialization offers a high-quality practical and theoretical foundation for any profession in this field. The focus on both theory and practice prepares you for professional life.

You will learn about general economic theory and take core courses in both Macroeconomics and Microeconomics. A crucial part of the curriculum is learning to apply theory in practical situations. When you are writing your Bachelor's thesis, you will use this skill.

  • International Economics and Business (IE&B) (specialization)

Are you interested in the differences in social norms and legal systems between international stakeholders? In this specialization, you will learn how a company can deal with these differences.

The world has become more and more integrated, but businesses still have to deal with stakeholders with diverse social norms and expectations. They also have to handle sometimes conflicting regulations, cope with different legal systems and balance multiple currencies. The International Economics and Business specialization gives you the tools to understand and possibly influence the behaviour of international companies, intergovernmental organizations and non-governmental agencies in a global business environment.

The IE&B specialization offers solid academic training as an economist with a strong international profile. The core of the specialization consists of courses in both International Business and International Economics. International Business concentrates on the main characteristics and activities of international corporations. These include strategic management, in other words, how strategic decision-making of multinational enterprises is affected by national economic, social, political and cultural environments. It also gives insight into the implications for competitive positioning, entry and establishment in foreign markets and international strategic alliances.

  • Business Economics (specialization)

What is the best way to run an organization? In the track Business Economics, you learn to understand decision-making within an organization from an economic point of view.

The Business Economics specialization offers a high-quality practical and theoretical academic foundation for any profession within the field. The focus is on core subjects from Business Economics: finance, accounting, marketing, operations and logistics and human resource management. In addition, you will get a firm base in general economic theory.

Via this combination of Business and Economics courses you learn to view the functioning of organizations from an analytic, microeconomic as well as a macro- and international economic point of view.

You also receive ample training in mathematics, statistics, applied econometrics, and research skills in order to be able to do individual academic research in Business Economics. In addition, you develop your academic writing skills through writing several theoretical and empirical papers and, finally, the Bachelor's thesis.
