This degree combines study of the key concepts, tools and techniques of economics with a thorough understanding of business.

You develop an understanding of economic issues in modern society, and of the global and national settings in which economic activities take place.

You learn about key management practices and develop practical business skills through topics such as:

An optional work placement year provides the chance to gain real-world business experience with a globally recognised company and enhance your employability.

Course Content

Our degrees are divided into Stages. Each Stage lasts for an academic year and you need to complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each Stage.

Please be aware that programme modules do change and therefore may differ for your year of entry.

Work placement (optional)

You may choose to spend the year between Stages 2 and 3 gaining business experience on an industrial or commercial work placement.

Newcastle University Business School has a dedicated Placements Officer who works closely with the University Careers Service to help you make the most of your skills and find the best placement opportunities.

A Levels
AAA-AAB excluding General Studies. GCSE Mathematics grade A and English grade B required if not taken at A or AS level.

Scottish Qualifications

AAAAA-AAABB at Higher Grade. Mathematics and English required at grade 2 Standard Grade (or Intermediate 2 equivalent) if not offered at Higher Grade. Combinations of Highers and Advanced Highers accepted.
International Baccalaureate

35-37 points. Standard Level Mathematics or Mathematical Studies required at grade 5 if not offered at Higher Level.
Irish Leaving Certificate

A1A1A1AB-A1A1A1B1B at Higher Level, normally to include Mathematics.
Access Qualifications

A level 3 unit in Mathematics or Quantitative Methods is essential. At least 30 level 3 credits at Distinction and in addition, at least 15 level 3 credits at a minimum of Merit.
BTEC Level 5 HND

In a relevant subject to include at least 90 credits at Merit grade and 90 credits at Distinction grade.
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (formerly BTEC National Diploma)

Overall DDD. Business-related subjects preferred. GCSE Mathematics grade A and English grade B required.
Cambridge Pre-U

D3,D3,D3-D3,D3,M2 in Principal Subjects. GCSE Mathematics at grade A and English at minimum grade B required if not taken at a higher level.
