Course Content

The degree starts with a broad-based first year which covers the fundamentals of the electrical and electronic subject area. It ensures that students from many different backgrounds are prepared for a detailed study of electronics.

You will continue to study electronics and be introduced to some of its specialist application areas in the second year. Subjects include Engineering Management, Communications Systems, and an Embedded Microprocessors Group Project.

The final year balances study between advanced electronics techniques, the main application areas for electronics and project work that will take you to the level of a junior professional engineer working in the electronics industry. Your individual project will see you working closely with your own academic supervisor to develop research aspects of electronic systems.

Your study will be based on a series of lectures, with associated seminars, laboratory practical classes and personal tutorials. In addition, your personal tutor will meet with you weekly during the first year and assist with your transition to studying in higher education.

You will work with staff on real-world problems from industry, commerce and research groups, as you would in professional practice; this means that you develop all of the professional skills at the same time as you learn the technical content of your degree.
