Course Content
This course has been designed so that you can study English language or literature while specialising in English language teaching.
The emphasis is very much on books written in recent years, or on the language of the 21st Century. Even our Shakespeare option is based on modern films and theatre performances of his plays: how we interpret his works today.
In the Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) part of the course you will learn the various methods and techniques applied in language teaching and the theories which underlie them, while also gaining practical experience of teaching.
The English part of the course will give you insights into how language works, how we make choices when speaking and writing and how other people are speak and write.
Your course will be based on a series of lectures, with associated seminars and practical workshop classes. In TEFL you will gain experience of actually teaching learners of English. In addition, your personal tutor will review and discuss your progress with you and will be available for advice.
